1. According to a Quinnipiac University poll, 44 percent of respondents believe that the United States has gone “too far” in its support for Israel. This figure stands at 62 percent among Democrats and 17 percent among Republicans.

2. In the same poll, 55 percent of respondents said that Iran did not pose an immediate military threat to the United States before the recent military action. The figure is 83 percent among Democrats and 23 percent among Republicans.

3. According to a Gallup poll, for the first time in 25 years, the share of Americans who say they sympathize with Palestinians has surpassed the share who say they sympathize with Israelis: 41 percent compared with 36 percent.

4. A YouGov poll also found that 75 percent of respondents are concerned about the United States becoming too deeply involved in Iran. This figure stands at 92 percent among Democrats and 56 percent among Republicans.

Taken together, these findings show that support for Israel in American public opinion has become increasingly contested. It is no longer as self-evident, unified, or politically cost-free as it once was.
